Wedding Cake Anyone?

A long time ago...in fact so long ago that it almost feels like another life, I was a cake decorator. It started as a fun something to do (I took 1 class from park and rec on how to decorate cakes) and I found it so enjoyable that I was constantly baking my brains out!

One thing lead to another and pretty soon I was being asked to bake wedding cakes. It was a challenge, my first wedding cake that I ever did took me 5 days to bake all the different pieces and it served over 600 people! Yikes ~

Let me explain one thing, however fun the decorating is - the ABSOLUTE WORST part is the delivery and set up of the cake. There are so many opportunities for disaster lurking around every corner! (I speak from sad experience) Thus the reason, I decided that this was no longer the business for me - who needs the stress!

But, what is one to do, when a former seminary student (Diane McAllister) and her sweet little sister (Christie - the Maid of Honor) asked if I would help them with their wedding cake! Sure I said, with much trepidation!

The decorating was fun - it was a simple design - she actually wanted real ribbon on the cake - this was a new experience for me, and she also wanted the bottom two layers to be Styrofoam and only the top layer was real cake - because they were having a dessert table with other cakes. Working with Styrofoam was also a new experience - but it really was fun to play with frosting again!

Christie and I were pleased with the outcome, now all that was needed was a safe delivery and set up! Hold your breath!

Seats were taken out of the van - a beach towel was laid down, and my good husband was told to DRIVE CAREFUL!

We walked in to a very festive bright yellow and lime green wedding reception with a cake that had not one dent in it!

And...in less than 1 minute set up the cake, without any leaning towers or melting frosting! (Both of which have happened to me when I was delivering a cake in 110 degree weather in August!)

The sweet little bridesmaids got to add the finishing touches of flowers and the cute little wedding couple.

I thought it only appropriate that we document a job well done! Aren't they cute?

Thank you, sweet little Christie, for giving me an opportunity to have a stress free and wonderful cake decorating and delivery experience!
